Asian, or Oriental, medicine is a 5,000-year-old tradition of health care that addresses acute and chronic conditions, assists healing of existing health concerns and is a key part of maintaining good health. Treatments draw from the four pillars of Oriental medicine: acupuncture, bodywork, exercise/meditation and herbal medicine. Other techniques also include electrical stimulation, herbs, moxabustion, ear seeds, magnets, and fire or suction cups to promote optimal healing.Today the value of this ancient medicine is recognized by many organizaitons, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute for Health (NIH).

Teaching classes at the Traditional Chinese Medicine School in Prague, beginning January 2014.

Susan Ondrasek's interest in health, healing and complementary medicine was sparked  when she became a Reiki practitioner and received her first acupuncture treatment in the 1980s. Although she worked in the field of journalism, she continued to pursue these interests informally or by writing about them. Ultimately, her complementary medicine studies culminated with a master's degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine (MAcOM) from the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin (AOMA) in December 2008. Her graduate studies included acupuncture, Chinese herbs, zen shiatsu (Japanese acupressure), tui na (Chinese bodywork), and biomedicine.

She practiced in Austin from March 2009 to October 2013. In January 2014 she joined the staff of Klinika Pivoňka in Prague 7. In addition to her professional practice, she gives talks on Asian medicine, TCM nutritional principles, fatigue, obesity, and other health issues; and teaches zen shiatsu and Reiki classes.

Although AOMA's graduate program primarily focuses on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Ms. Ondrasek has broadened her focus to include five-element and esoteric acupuncture to address emotional and spiritual issues. In June 2009, she completed the AOMA Occupational Acupuncture Course.

Ms. Ondrasek began her zen shiatsu studies in Prague, Czech Republic in 2002. She moved to Austin in 2003 to resume her zen shiatsu studies at AOMA and decided to complete the school's acupuncture program. She become an AOBTA-certified (American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia) zen shiatsu practitioner in July 2005 and kicked off her practice that summer teaching in Romania and the Czech Republic.

In 1983, Ms. Ondrasek became a first-degree Reiki (hands-on-healing) practitioner; in 1998 she became a master/ teacher of Seichem Reiki and in 2005 of Usui Reiki. Additionally, she attended the School for Enlightenment and Healing in San Diego in 1995, studying Barbara Brennan's hands-on-healing techniques, Pathwork and Bio-energetics. In 2003, she studied Plant Spirit Medicine in Colorado.

The native Texan worked as a journalist, editor, publisher and publicist in Dallas, San Francisco, Austin, and Prague. She primarily covered real estate at The Dallas Times Herald, The San  Francisco Examiner and The Prague Post; and created and published a parenting magazine in Dallas. While living in Prague in the 1990s, she also taught English and hatha yoga classes.

Ms. Ondrasek has been practicing Transcendental Meditation and Iyengar-style hatha yoga since 1986.
